Je Briseis was written as a commission from BUMA Cultuur and the National Opera Studio in Amsterdam. The piece was premiered in TivoliVredenburg, Utrecht, during the History in Concert Festival. The piece tells the story of a young woman, Briseis, that, according to Greek mythology, was one of Achilles’ lovers. She sings about being rejected by Achilles, even though she has done everything for him.
